About the MICT SETA 2025/2026 Special Discretionary Grant Window for Research

The Media, Information and Communication Technology Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) invites eligible applicants and stakeholders to apply for the Special Discretionary Grant (DG) Window for Research.

This Call for Proposals seeks to address both national and sectoral priorities while positioning the MICT SETA to effectively deliver on its mandate as outlined in the Sector Skills Plan (SSP), Strategic Plan (SP), and Annual Performance Plan (APP) for the 2025–2030 period.

This grant allocation will fund research projects that focus on priority skills needs, emerging and future skills, sectoral transformation, skills demand and supply, digital transformation, and skills-driven sector growth. Under this Call for Proposals, the MICT SETA will allocate DG funding to the following research projects:

  1. Investigative Study on the Uptake of the MICT SETA 4IR Qualifications: 
  2. A study of entrepreneurial ecosystem: exploring skills, training needs, and innovation for the sustainability and growth of SMMES, CBOS, NPOS, NGOS, and Cooperatives in the MICT sector: 

Who can apply?

The following stakeholder groups are encouraged to apply:

  1. Higher Education Institutions.
  2. Research Organisations.
  3. TVET/CET Colleges.
  4. Skills Development Providers.
  5. Industry Associations.
  6. Independent Research Providers

Mandatory compliance documents:

  • Proof of company registration: CIPC Documents and/or share certificate (for companies with more than one (01) Director).    
  • Valid Certificate Tax Clearance – must not have expired;
  • Certified ID copies of the company’s directors as per the CIPC documents. (Certified copies must not be older than six (06) months).

Proposals without the mandatory required documentation, will not be evaluated.

How to Apply?

  1. All applications must be submitted via email at dgresearch@mict.org.za
  2. The funding window opens on 10 October 2025 and closes on 07 November  2025.
  3. Applications are open for 21 working days.
  4. MICT SETA reserves the right to request supplementary information where applicable, and applicants will be given five (5) working days to submit the information or address any queries that MICT SETA may have concerning the applications submitted. Failure to submit the supplementary information within the stipulated timeframe would lead to the disqualification of your application.
  5. The due date for submission will not be extended, and any late or incomplete application will not be considered.
