Lights, camera and loads of action!

Limco Management and Consulting launched the Film and Television Production Operations NQF Level 5 Leadership in Mpumalanga, funded by the MICT SETA. The partnership between MICT SETA and Limco has over the years yielded results in providing skills development opportunities to the youth of our country.

Not only did Limco launch this life-changing programme, but they were also part of Beyonce’s, “Black is King” Production in partnership with Nkangala District Municipality and Lights, Camera, Diaspora (LCD), a non-profit social enterprise which helps connect local and international production talent.

Beyonce’s film “Black Is King” featured some of SA’s most notable artists, including the late Mary Twala and Busiswa Gqulu, Warren Masemola, Nandi Madida and some youths from Mpumalanga who got the opportunity of a lifetime to work behind the scenes. The production was shot in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Mpumalanga where some of our learners participated.

In the first three days, the film was shot in KwaZulu-Natal and later in Johannesburg, where the ten trainees joined the production. The trainees helped in departments such as Lighting, Camera, Sound, Make-up, Grips and as Extras.

Simphiwe Skosana, one of the trainees said she learnt a lot from the experience. “I assisted the lighting department with the manipulation of lights and moving around of the equipment among other things.” She said she will use the experience she gained from the show’s production in her future pursuits in the film industry. Simphiwe worked alongside acclaimed cinematographer, Michael Fernandez.

Another trainee, photography student Sbusiso Mathebula, said he was inspired by the project. “Black Is King really shaped my way of understanding art. The locations we used were perfectly chosen and to see how they used them showed me how I can go about being a filmmaker. It had a lot of creative elements in telling our stories as black people. Our uniqueness was showcased.”

“Thank you for believing in our organisation.  Your support has been noticed, along with the entire Senior Management Team.  As Limco Consulting and Management, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the MICT SETA, this kind of opportunity to provide skill enhancement to the youth talent in South Africa is what we envision at Limco Consulting and Management.” – Mr Sibusiso Matsinye – Chief Executive Officer.
