MICT SETA Achieves Clean Audit for Second Consecutive Year, Reinforcing Commitment to Good Governance and Strategic Innovation
Johannesburg, 16 September 2024 – The Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to good governance, operational excellence, and strategic innovation by securing an unqualified audit outcome without findings for the second consecutive year. This remarkable achievement underscores the entity’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of internal controls, financial management, and efficiency in delivering on its mandate.
The clean audit outcome reaffirms the MICT SETA’s leadership in the public sector, where adherence to regulatory frameworks and the consistent implementation of robust performance management systems are critical. The Auditor-General’s report highlights the entity’s compliance with key legislative requirements and the effectiveness of its internal controls, further solidifying the MICT SETA’s role in shaping the future of the technology, media, and communications sectors through impactful skills development initiatives.
In line with its commitment to innovation, the MICT SETA has embarked on a pioneering project to develop and implement a web-based integrated Learner Management System (LMS). This system is designed to enhance stakeholder collaboration, streamline governance, and integrate core processes such as grant disbursements, learning programmes, Education Training and Quality Assurance, and financial reporting. The project, driven by the adoption of the Triple-Helix model of innovation, represents a significant leap forward in the digitisation and efficiency of the SETA’s operations.
Chief Financial Officer, Mthenjwa Mseleku expressed pride in the sustained achievement, stating: “This clean audit is a testament to the collective effort of our team to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity in our financial and operational processes. It underscores our commitment to effective internal controls and reinforces the trust that stakeholders place in us to deliver on our mandate with efficiency and customer-centricity.”
CEO Matome Madibana echoed these sentiments, emphasising the strategic importance of the audit outcome: “Achieving a clean audit for two consecutive years is not just a reflection of our compliance with legislative standards but also an affirmation of our strategic direction. This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support and collaboration of our valued stakeholders and implementing partners, whose dedication continues to drive our success”. The inclusion of innovative projects like the Learner Management System amongst other projects highlight our ability to lead in both governance and technological advancement. This initiative serves as a blueprint for transforming the SETA project landscape, demonstrating that innovation and strong internal controls can drive meaningful change across the sector.”
The MICT SETA remains steadfast in its mission to equip the workforce with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Through continuous learning programmes, strategic sector skills planning, and collaboration with industry stakeholders, the SETA is committed to making a lasting impact on the South African economy.
As the entity moves forward, the clean audit outcome serves as both a benchmark of excellence and a catalyst for further growth, ensuring that the MICT SETA remains at the forefront of driving meaningful change in the sectors it serves.
