Dear Valued Stakeholder,
We are pleased to announce the renewal of a strategic partnership between the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) and Mobile Applications Laboratory NPC (mLab) through the official re-signing of our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
First established in 2022, this partnership has been instrumental in delivering 4IR-aligned training to young people in township and rural communities, equipping them with critical digital skills to participate meaningfully in South Africa’s growing technology-driven economy.
At the core of this collaboration is the “Introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT)” training programme, implemented through MICT SETA’s 4IR Division and facilitated by mLab. This initiative empowers youth with practical, in-demand tech skills while encouraging innovation that addresses real-world community challenges.
To date, four successful training cohorts have been delivered – three in the Northern Cape and one in Richmond, KwaZulu-Natal, with many graduates securing employment, launching small businesses, or building impactful tech solutions in their communities.
“We are proud to continue this journey with mLab. Together, we are ensuring that our skills development efforts reach where they’re needed most.”
– Matome Madibana, CEO of MICT SETA
“This partnership is more than just training. It’s about creating opportunities and ensuring that young people, especially in rural areas, are not left behind in the digital economy.”
– Nicoli Koorbanally, CEO of mLab
This renewed MOU reflects our shared commitment to closing the digital divide, building inclusive access to innovation, and creating a future-ready workforce. It is another meaningful step in our mission to drive socio-economic transformation through digital skills and entrepreneurship.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us shape a more inclusive and innovative South Africa.
Yours in Skills Development
MICT SETA
