Dear Valued Stakeholder,
Johannesburg – on Tuesday, 01 July 2025 – the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and The Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) announced the intake for the 2025 internship programme at the public broadcaster. The initiative forms part of both organisations shared commitment to youth development, sector transformation, and building critical capabilities for the future of media and broadcasting, in the country.
This year will see 100 interns on boarded, across the SABC’s various offices around the country. For a period of 12 months, interns will cover theoretical and practical exposure, in the respective areas of TV production, radio broadcasting, marketing, finance, journalism, ICT, HR, legal, and other business support areas, depending on placement.
Ms Rachel Masuku, Group Executive: Human Resources states, “As a public broadcaster, we are keenly aware of the role we have in the development of skills and knowledge in the media industry. Over the years, interns who have been trained at the SABC have managed to get jobs within the organisation or other media organisations. This speaks to the high level of engagement and training interns receive, as upon completion of the programme, they are well equipped to join the job market, with the relevant skills required”.
“We would also like to thank MICT SETA for their continued support over the years, in funding this programme. This investment by the SETA, has ensured that we have been able to work together to meaningfully build the media sector”, concluded Masuku. The MICT SETA recognises this internship as a critical intervention in equipping young people with practical industry experience and promoting inclusive participation in the media and ICT sectors. It supports the SETA’s priority objectives of bridging the digital skills gap, expanding access to work-based learning, and equipping young people with future-fit capabilities aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Importantly, it also contributes to inclusive sector growth by targeting youth, women, persons with disabilities, and rural communities, while strengthening partnerships that drive sustainable transformation across the industry.
Mr Matome Madibana, CEO at MICT SETA highlighted:
“This internship programme represents more than a pipeline of future talent; it’s a powerful tool for changing lives. We are proud to partner with the SABC in delivering skills development initiatives that are practical, meaningful, and aligned with our national imperative to empower the youth. Through such interventions, we are building a digitally competent workforce and contributing to the transformation and growth of South Africa’s media and ICT sectors.” “As the MICT SETA, we remain committed to enabling learning pathways that empower young South Africans and accelerate participation in the digital economy,” he concluded.
The partnership between the SABC and MICT SETA is a bold demonstration of what’s possible when two purpose-driven institutions unite to unlock potential, empowering South Africa’s youth with future-fit skills, advancing inclusive economic participation, and reshaping the media and ICT sectors for generations to come.
