MICT SETA Secures Unqualified Audit Opinion for 2022/2023, Showcasing Dedication to Excellence and Collaboration

Cape Town, 27 October 2023 – The Media, Information, and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) proudly announced today the attainment of a clean audit for the 2022/2023 financial year, reinforcing its unwavering commitment to sound governance, financial transparency, and operational efficiency. Endorsed by the Auditor General of South Africa, this notable recognition solidifies MICT SETA’s reputation as a committed custodian of public funds, amplifying its standing as a beacon of responsible financial management.

According to Mr. Simphiwe Thobela, Chairperson of the MICT SETA Board, “Our unyielding dedication to transparency and accountability has been pivotal in securing this clean audit outcome, signifying our continual pursuit of the highest standards of corporate governance.” The entity has achieved an overall performance of 95% against predetermined targets. The SETA’s performance has significantly improved over the years from 75% in 2020/21, to 90% in 2021/22 and attaining 95% in the 2023/24 financial year.

The Annual General Meeting also served as a platform to highlight MICT SETA’s remarkable strides in crafting occupational qualifications in key domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Drone Technology, and Blockchain amongst other 4IR occupations. Mr. Thobela stressed the pivotal role of strategic partnerships in this triumph, stating, “Our strategic alliances and responsiveness to industry needs have been fundame. By fostering collaborations with leading, professional bodies, SMMEs, and academic institutions and other government institutions we have fostered an ecosystem of innovation and excellence, ensuring our endeavours remain pertinent and impactful.”

A cornerstone of MICT SETA’s success has been its commitment to operational efficiency. This has been effected through leveraging a digital transformation programme which includes investment in ICT infrastructure to improve, streamline and innovate our process efficiencies across multiple divisions to better serve stakeholders. The organisation has optimised its operations, enriching service delivery to stakeholders and reinforcing its pledge to service excellence and customer centricity. The recent introduction of our pioneering Integrated Learner Management System, incorporating the cutting-edge Sector Skills Plan and Learning Programmes module, enables precise monitoring and delivery of skill development programmes finely attuned to the sector’s dynamic requirements. “This digital advancement guarantees our stakeholders an unparalleled, customised experience, elevating their interaction with our comprehensive suite of offerings”, Thobela highlighted.

This clean audit outcome not only echoes MICT SETA’s sound financial management, performance and good corporate governance, which are not mutually exclusive, but also underscores its commitment to nurturing a skilled and agile workforce, fortifying South Africa’s competitive edge in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
